One-Piece vs Two-Piece Ball Valve: Which One to Choose?

There is a unique function for every ball valve, regardless of whether it is manual or operated, flanged or NPT, brass or stainless steel. In order to select the best valve manufacturer in India, you must understand their operation and features.

In one-piece ball valves, the body is solidly cast to reduce the risk of leakage. There is no way to repair it, and it is inexpensive. As with two-piece ball valves, it is impossible to fix them without removing them from service. This type of valve is composed of two pieces, one of which has one end connection and the other has the body. It includes the second-end connection and fits into the first piece to hold the trim.

For various processes, understanding the differences between these two valves is essential. Here is everything you need to know about two-piece vs. one-piece ball valves!

Everything to Learn About One-Piece Ball Valve:

It consists of only one body part, which is called a single ball valve or a single piece ball valve. The trim on this device attaches to the seals through end connections made of the same material as the body. This results in a small bore design since the port size is not the same as the line. The PTFE ring, PTFE ball, and lock nut are the components of a ball valve purchased from an industrial ball valve company.|

With this type of construction, users rarely or never experience leakage problems. There is, however, one major drawback to this type of device, which is that it is irreparable. The thread diameter is smaller than the flow diameter, and it has a reduced diameter.

Advantages of Using a One-Piece Ball Valve:

  • On the switch, it provides zero friction and little fluid resistance.

  • Similar to a pipe of the same length, it has a similar resistance coefficient.

  • There is little space taken up by it within a piping system because it is lightweight.

  • It uses a sealing surface material with good sealing performance and a vacuum system.

  • Because of its 90-degree rotation, it opens and closes quickly.

  • Simple structure, movable sealing ring, and easy replacement and disassembly make its maintenance convenient.

  • Compared to its competitors, its simple design makes it more affordable.

As a relatively new ball valve type, it offers some unique advantages, such as reducing actuator size. By rotating the valve, it can be unblocked or blocked.

A one-piece ball valve is rarely used in industries with high demand since it is difficult to repair and replace. However, a one-piece ball valve can be used in applications where a reduced flow is not an issue. These applications make it effective. It is commonly used in food service machinery, liquid filling equipment, and motor fluid filing equipment.

Everything to Learn About Two-Piece Ball Valve:

Two-piece ball valves are composed of two independent parts connected by bolts, threads, or flanges. Both the body and the end of these pieces are connected. There is a high chance of leakage in this valve body due to the combination of two separate sections. This device controls the flow direction of the medium in a pipeline by cutting off, distributing, and reversing its flow.

Due to this, two-piece ball valves cannot be used for applications requiring high pressure. As opposed to a one-piece valve, it can be disassembled for internal component repair. A top entry floating ball valve, an elastic ball valve, and a fixed ball valve all offer better sealing than a one-piece ball valve.

Advantages of Using a Two-Piece Ball Valve:

  • It offers minimal fluid resistance with a coefficient equal to the length of a pipe.

  • In addition to being lightweight, it occupies less space, and its design provides good sealing performance.

  • As a result of its simple design and movable ring, its structure is easy to repair and maintain.

  • Sealing surfaces are not corroded since they are isolated from the medium.

  • Its sealing cover and seat are isolated, so its medium doesn't erode the piece quickly.

  • The remote control is convenient because it requires only a 90-degree turn to open or close.

Many industries use a two-piece ball valve because of its ease of maintenance in a variety of applications. Among the industries that use two-piece ball valves are food, manufacturing, and automotive. Basically, it works by rotating the valve to block or unblock it.

Difference Between One-Piece and Two-Piece Ball Valve:

In industrial piping systems, ball valves act as shut-off devices to regulate the flow of liquids and gases through them. In this device, a ball with a bore is rotated to control the flow of water. Several industries use industrial valves, such as chemical storage, oil and gas, residential applications, and manufacturing.

In light of the fact that it comes in many types, such as one-piece, two-piece, and three-piece, choosing one with the right body for a specific application can be challenging. In contrast to a one-piece ball valve, a two-piece valve has two threaded body components.

Parting Words

Because it is difficult to repair one-piece ball valves for maintenance, one-piece ball valves are typically thrown away. However, it remains an economical alternative to two-piece valves with the main body and only one end connection. Although it can be quickly repaired, removing the end plug from the valve body is often difficult due to galling in the threads.
